Living in our little cabin here in Alaska has made me really love cabins, as well as any little structure that looks at all inhabitable. Or maybe that’s just the high price of real estate coupled with our never-ending debt. Either way, a prefab, modular, shipping container, caboose, caravan… these all sound like pretty amazing options. We don’t need a lot. But we don’t want to tent and couch surf camp forever either. I’d love to find a little piece of land where we can plant a little garden and plunk down whatever found materials or kit cabin we can muster. I could also go for a yurt, tipi, or some other sort of alternative housing. I’ve been getting philosophical again, and I’ve been wondering about out need to create something permanent- to leave our mark where we travel, and take something with us when we go. It would be amazing to build a big family house that my kids could inherit, but they may have ideas of their own about how and where to live. I also love the freedom that comes with this lifestyle. Financial freedom from a mortgage out of our means, freedom to travel and continue seeing the world, and the ability to possibly pick up the yurt or airstream and go… that would be a pretty nifty option when it comes to our frequent relocation, although someday I’d love for that to phase out soon here other than short trips!
Here are a few little houses just for inspiration. Lots more little house and micro-tecture coming up!
