My Labors of Love
DelysiaStyle is a blog dedicated to eclectic interior design, architecture, art, entertaining and all things fresh and inspiring. You’ll also get business and personal motivation for living an “out-of-the-box” type of modern existence. While I love sleek design and pretty things, I also have a penchant for rustic, tiny cabins in the woods, and any material that is raw and “honest.” Even though years ago I initially created the blog to celebrate things that women often love, you’ll notice that I am often drawn to the darker, more androgynous side of aesthetics.
A Little Trivia: The blog is named in honor of a character in the fabulous movie Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. The character of Delysia (deh-liss-ee-a) played by Amy Adams, is a cheerful, but somewhat lost young woman who learns who she is and how to confidently become her true self through her stumbles and falls. The film is gorgeously stylish from start to finish, with period design and costumes from 1939. Visually, it’s a little-known gem of a film and a treat for fans of Frances McDormand or Amy Adams.
After a while I started wanting to blog about other topics as well, especially my love for health, plant food, and natural living. Recipes, tips, ideas, product reviews, reports of our travels and adventures can now be found at Kale University which I co-created with a team of my fellow veggie-obsessed friends based in San Diego and New York City.
Education & Background
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the Art Institute of California and have worked in the design industry in various capacities, and also enjoy traveling and trying my hand at new challenges.
I’m from San Diego and love it there very much. My husband Joel (hailing from Laramie, WY) and I met in San Diego (yes, on eHarmony) in 2006 and were married in Boulder in 2010. In 2013 we moved into a studio loft in downtown Portland and completely fell in love with the city.
Joel’s business, Kale Monkey, offers a range of services including web development, design, coding, and social media consulting. When we aren’t tapping away at our keyboards, we enjoy cooking, hiking, and playing at the park with our Jack Russell mix-mutts, Ginger and Skipper.
